I agree with you.If the AAC locks up the 6th championship spot the first few years of the playoff, then BYUs value will begin to fade away. Then BYU will have lost it's opportunity.
Simply look at what independence has provided you with respect to national relevancy! If it wasn't for a worldwide pandemic, you have not been relevant at all on the college football landscape.
BYU will be making a mistake by not making a move sooner than later.
