The best players don't even bother playing in them anymore.
Half of the games are snoozers because one team or the other obviously doesn't even care. Based on ticket sales and TV ratings, the number of fans who care is also shrinking every year.
If we want to give the kids more practice, then just change the rules and let them practice. If they really want to play another game, make them earn a spot in a game that means something.
