While BYU hockey provides a good opportunity to those who want to continue to play hockey but don't have the talent or interest in playing professionally or even at the highest levels of college hockey, it's not like BYU baseball, which has produced a decent amount of MLB talent (including a HOFer).
That said, BYU does need to figure out how to sanction an NCAA soccer team. To cover the 9.9 scholarships required for men's soccer, BYU could add a women's beach volleyball team (6.0 scholarships) and a women's bowling team (5.0 scholarships). I'm sure men's soccer and women's beach volleyball would be break-even sports at BYU.
