At my company no one will respond if you just send emails.
It is strange almost everywhere else I have worked, just send an email and they will get back to you. Here people get so many emails they just ignore them or something.

I use it to gage if they're ready to talk. Often they're in an informal meeting and can't yet. They'll respond when open
