Your agent should have just done a new policy with new effective date.
This happens a lot and honestly if your agent wouldn't do this they are either ignorant or lazy. It is kinda annoying for an agent to have to do a new policy in these cases but a good agent will do it regardless. So of they didn't offer to do this you should definitely switch agents. You can switch insurance mid policy with no problems to a different company.
