I just have a theory after late 00's and the mass adoption of the internet

the Top 100 no longer represents what is the best in music anymore. It used to and certainly represents what is hugely popular but the internet has allowed groups to gain huge followings without Top 100 places on the Billboard charts. Like LCD Soundsystem has a huge following and they released stuff at the end of the 2000s.

Alternative/Indie music has exploded in a decade and I think would be a disservice to the 10's to not include The Strokes or the former mentioned as influencing the 00's and 10's decades. Maybe I'm just a big "indie" music snob... 🤷‍♂️
