The first time I watched that version of Les Mis I didn't care for it at all. I have always called it the bad singing version. Recently I rewatched it and came away with a completely different feeling. I really liked how the singing was unpolished, and in Russel Crowe's case it was bad. All together it somehow felt more real, more raw. It is now one of my favorite versions.
