You can be just as good of an ambassador for BYU and what it stands for (sometimes even better than some baptized members I would argue) if you are not a member of the church as if you are. Grimes understood BYU and it's mission and purpose as well as anyone. To not hire him as a head coach simply because he isn't baptized would be asinine (obviously I am not saying I want his as the head coach right now, but he is a useful example). But I do understand that is the way things are currently.
