While it's a more recent development in sports science, it's pretty well
established that a heavy emphasis on weight-lifting is a sub-optimal training program for football players. Nowadays, there's more emphasis on flexibility and workouts to improve your explosiveness in upper and lower body.

I was extremely concerned when Kalani took over and immediately started emphasizing weight-lifting again, even throughout the regular season. Especially when Matt Bushman said the baseball team had tougher S&C. Didn't surprise me honestly when BYU was plagued with injuries. Perhaps Kalani has moved away from that in more recent years, but hard to know for sure.
