Access allows you to compete and win, and winning changes perceptions/discussion over time.
This is why the P5s have fought so hard for so long to keep a gap between themselves and the others. They know that access will erode that gap over time. The SEC’s commissioner is the single greatest proponent of the new CFP because he knows it will do far more to bridge the gap between the P12/ACC/B12 and G5 than it will for the SEC. Paired with poaching the top of the B12, it is a death blow for the perceived “power” status of those conferences.
