You can't have a repeat of 2011. Who cares about the status of the league's membership after 2025? The worst thing that could happen is that the Big 12 becomes an improved version of the AAC, which would likely result in BYU having a significant voice in filling out the conference. This means they'd get some regional teams like SDSU & UNLV invited instead of more Eastern schools like Tulane or SMU.
