I listened to the latest episode College Football Enquirer with Dan Wetzel, Pete Thamel and Pat Forde. They discussed all the Big12/ESPN/SEC/ACC drama as expected, and they also dove into discussion surrounding potential Pac12 expansion. They had some interesting things to say regarding BYU in the context of Pac12 expansion:
“I would think the only school left on the board, outside of Notre Dame, that would really make [the Pac12] whole (because of the streaming future) is BYU... But I can’t imagine the politics of the Pac12 are going to want BYU. BYU is high maintenance, can’t play on Sundays... There’s issues that come with BYU.”
What can BYU do to shake the national perception of being “high maintenance” and having “issues that come with”? As an independent, BYU has been very flexible when it comes to scheduling and contracts. But any time the topic gets brought up of BYU not being in a conference, there’s always mention of the high maintenance label as being a reason.
I guess I don’t quite see justification for that stigma.
