It wouldn’t surprise me at all if the grand scheme is for ESPN to create a
super conference based on the SEC, a second super conference based on the ACC/ND, and a third based on the AAC/B12/BYU.
ESPN would own the content for those conferences for the next two decades and could encourage those conferences to only play each other. No more FCS body bag games, etc to maximize the content. Pay them all a bazillion dollars (with the SEC getting the most, then the ACC, then the AAC) and hope that 8-10 of the CFP spots go to schools from those conferences.
