Payroll is significantly lower than the Dodgers, who also have money tied up in aging stars. You also have Bauer under Obviously the Dodgers have deeper pockets, and that extends their window.. But the Padres also finally have an owner willing to spend money. You also have a potential $60 million anchor in the form of Trevor Bauer if you are unable to void his contract

2) the Padres did not go “all-in” and still have four prospects in the MLB pipeline top 50, and the Dodgers don’t have any.

3) the Padres have five current all-star infielders who are all under contract next year. Four of them at reasonable numbers.

4) The Padres have a younger average roster than the Dodgers though it’s close (both are middle of the pack in MLB.

5) They obviously don’t want Hosmer anymore and are trying to dump him, but his contract was front-loaded and his number drops significantly to $13 million AAV beginning next season.

The Dodgers are clearly the better team this year. But that does not mean the Padres’ window isn’t just opening. Their average player is younger than 29, Tatis still is improving as crazy as that sounds and their rotation gets deeper next year with the addition of Clevinger (hopefully he stays healthy).

I know any mention of the Padres sends up the bat signal for Dodger fans to crap on them, but you are kidding yourself if you don’t think the Padres are capable of beating you this year or for the next 2-3 years.

So I’m just asking you to review the full facts before you automatically dismiss us.
