Just like EVERY relationship ever....
There must be a symbiotic relationship. If your best friend started requiring you to pay a $10,000 annual friend fee, you'd probably axe that friend after a year or two at most.
ESPN likes BYU, they WANT BYU to be successful as it aligns with their success. They are not going to pay more for BYU just because they like them.
