I remember there was plenty of controversy when Zach was named the starter
coming back from injury where he started over Baylor vs SDSU and Hawaii. I remember thinking that Baylor gave us a better chance to win. And that was just 1 season removed from his elite 2020 season. It's also important to take strength of schedule into consideration. I seriously wonder how Jaren or Baylor would have looked vs that schedule and if we would have really seen that much of a difference in the W/L column regardless of who started. Not trying to knock Zach at all, I just remember that many people believed at one point in time not too long ago that one of the QB's we had now would have given us a better shot at winning.

That said, Zach made some throws that are simply just elite and he did it consistently in 2020. It doesn't matter who you are playing, when you are making the throws he made, and putting it on a dime down after down, it wouldn't matter if it was LA Tech or LSU defending - Zach was going to be making the play. Just to be clear here, Zach was on a different level in 2020 and there's just no denying it.

I just think that motivation and psychology can do some pretty incredible things in getting someone like Zach into the zone like we did. I think as he looked over the schedule, he had to feel very confident that we could go into every single game and put up some amazing numbers. I remember when I played sports and was entering into my Junior year and had played certain levels of competition before and knew what to expect, I remember the first 5 games of our season were against some much weaker competition and I went in fully expecting to dominate and I did. And I remember doing things without hesitation that looked amazing on film where against stronger competition I remember feeling more tense and cautious from start to finish because I knew a mistake on just one play could cost us the game.
