you disagree that's fine, but the rest of the sports world calls them the best over-all athletes in the world
the individual events are not the story, the whole point is Usain Bolt can't throw a discus, Michael Phelps can't high jump, etc.
maybe they would be individual medalists if they focused on their best event but there is so much variety you have to be able to run, jump, throw, show power, speed and endurance. nothing else tests so many skills and abilities.
