I was just thinking about why 2020 might be a huge springboard. Here's my logic.
One of BYU's issues is depth after 1st string, especially on defense and both interior lines. The drop off on the past has been significant.
2020 essentially gave us practice reps in live situations for a lot of our second string, owing to the all the blowouts. Then when you compare the number of games other teams played because of Covid (e.g Arizona only played 5 games) , we essentially got double the reps of many other teams AND got back up reps too. Essentially our backups might have gotten the equivalent experience of some Division I football teams starting string.
And then you add the self confidence that wins from blowing people out....I think the advantage of Tom getting us games last year will be much bigger than we all think.
