Most universities use the semester system. Most teaching materials are likewise designed around the semester.

A 120 hour degree plan doesn’t really result in one course having undo influence on the cumulative gpa.

I liked the the setup. Spring/summer classes were my favorite, but also enjoyed

In the PAC 12 it might make more sense because more schools are on that system.
