He likely doesn’t have anything to do with it.

He used some online service to put what he thought was a clever line on a T-shirt. Somebody creates a computer program to catch those ideas and post them on their own site so people buy the shirt from them, and not the original site. All automated, with no human ever involved once the bot is launched.
