It’s hard to say that random chance isn’t involved. There have been games where
the game comes down to a fumble landing on the left side of the ball and bouncing out of bounds and a team loses vs the right side of the ball and stays in bounds and the team wins. Yet with your logic in the first situation the players are inferior athletes because the ball bounced left and in the second situation the team has superior athletes because the ball bounced right.

A players’ athletic ability doesn’t determine whether they can get the ball to bounce left or right in many situations.
