Wasn’t ever a monopoly. Unless BYU actually capped the number of places it approved which I’ve heard is not the case.

Well, they did have the 2-mile radius rule. So that sort of capped the number.

That rule was implemented about 15 years ago IIRC. Only allowed "BYU-approved"
