It’s still early in the season, polls are fluctuating quite a bit.
It will be an uphill climb for BYU to continue to rise in the rankings, especially as the P5 teams start to get into the meat of their schedules. Is BYU really going to stay ahead of teams like Michigan, Oklahoma State, UCLA, etc. if BYU is only beating teams like Wazzu or Utah State by a TD?

When it’s late in the season, the voters are going to start nitpicking every little thing to differentiate. BYU got the benefit of the doubt in large part last year because they were obliterating teams…and even that wasn’t enough after 1 loss to a ranked team at their place on 3 days notice. Margin of victory matters in CFB, especially against the lesser teams. Always has, and always will.
