On the mac.. make sure you are connected at gigabit speeds..
Settings -> Network
Click on your Ethernet Connection then click the 'Advanced' button.
On the window that comes up click the 'Hardware' Tab.
In the Speed box, it should say 1000baseT. If it says 100baseT then your computer doesn't support gig speeds.
