Shawshank is a masterpiece and one of the greatest films ever made.

Saving Private Ryan has the single best war/action sequence ever filmed, but is basically a b-movie apart from an incredible beginning and a few prescient scenes.

Also, I consider SPR a genre movie, whereas Shawshank is an everyday, riveting piece of human drama I can watch all the time.
