There's some anecdotal evidence that they wire-tapped our coaches' headsets.
But it shouldn't have mattered. The disparity in talent between the two teams was large enough that we should've been able to announce our play over the stadium PA system before every down and still beat them.
To this day it's an inexplicable result.

IMO, 1983 and 1985 had better teams than 1984. The thing was that 1984 won 5 games by 7 points or fewer
