Kayle Buchanan spoke at the fireside the night before the game, and I remember being so impressed with what a good dude he was.
Although the game was competitive, Buchanan had a rough night, being pressed into action due to injuries and matching up multiple times throughout the night with none other than DeSean Jackson, who was only a sophomore but having followed recruiting at the time I knew he was a superstar.
There was a fan sitting a few rows down and to the right who was yelling things like, "You're an embarrassment Buchanan!" It was really grinding my gears as I thought about this really good dude being mercilessly heckled by a BYU fan. I let it go the first few times, but when Buchanan got burned again for a touchdown and he started up again, I had had enough. I won't repeat everything I said (which two drunk Cal fans found exceptionally entertaining) but I made some promises about what would befall him, should he make another peep.
I'm not very small, he did not make a sound for the rest of the game, and I still don't regret it a bit.
