Smith has a much better track record at Utah St than Ray did at EWU.
But again - a completely new staff that has a good track record of fielding a 2 time MWC winner and 3 NCAA bids in a row at Utah St is a solid foundation to build on for Utah.
Will it pan out for Utah? Maybe, maybe not. No guarantees. There is also no guarantee Pope will be at BYU in 2-3 years. Saying the program is a dumpster fire seems over the top when they have already resolved the issue that caused so many transfers in the first place.
Why do you guys have me defending Utah? Sheesh. Not sure why there is so much insecurity around saying they have a solid coach, quality AD, and a program that has history. That can all be true and it doesn't make BYU any less awesome.

You could be right. Or he could be Ray Giacoletti. Prior performance is not always a good indicator of future results.
