Here are the facts:
BYU is ranked 70th in points allowed per possession.
BYU is ranked 37th in points scored per possession. (BYU is ranked as the 15th best offense by FEI, a big reason for this is 102nd in average starting field position by the offense and #17 in average starting opponent field position). What it means is despite the offense having to the length of the field nearly ever time (26.6 average starting position) we gain enough yards and play good enough special teams that the defense is rarely put in a poor position (#17 averaging on their own 25.9 yardline).
Overall FEI ranks the offense as the 15th best in college football. It ranks our defense as the 62nd best. That is where we are at. That is statistical analysis based on points per possession being the biggest factor.
