It isn’t always like that. I have a habit of still going into work when I’m sick
I used to never get PTO or sick days. This forces a lot of people to go to work when they are sick. Now, it’s ingrained in me to go to work when I’m sick. Even when I first received PTO it wasn’t much and no sick days. I wasn’t going to use vacation days for when I was sick.
Now I get 12 sick days per year. I will use those if my wife has to work(she works 2 days a week) and one of the kids are sick as it is allowed per policy. It’s nice to be able to do that but not everyone gets that.
