There are two things that you need to coach on special teams. Neither are about skill, or luck, or speed, or recruiting.
1) NEVER return the kickoff. The statistics are so clear on this that it's ridiculous. Unless you have a generational type talent on returner, just take it at the 25.
I firmly believe that if BYU does this - they win at Boise and are headed to NY6.
2) Since you aren't going to return the ball - be ready for the onside. If you don't recover the onside, but were ready - OK, but to be caught by surprise - twice - is simply poor coaching.
Other than that - agree with punting and other points.
Overall very excited for the future, but I never want to see another kickoff return again. The risks are simply not worth the rewards.
