They don’t know if the GRB will exercise its option to take BYU
Seems like it is standard procedure. Besides Jay Drew has shown himself to be an incredibly lazy reporter unwilling to do any research.
Also the Bowl is in two weeks so it pays to try to have things ready should the independence bowl get BYU. The GRB won’t know until tomorrow when the final CFP rankings drop whether it will have a vacancy or not.

It's not our decision on whether to opt out, but that option is a possibility. Would depend on ESPN and the bowls
