It's not a "one vaccine narrative fits all strains" thing here imo
1. Vaccines did clearly show the ability to block transmission to the OG strain.
2. They were less effective in blocking transmission with Delta but CLEARLY had huge benefit in reduction of symptom severity, hospitalizations and death with Delta
3. They (vaccines) likely will be shown to not be very effective in preventing transmission with omicron and the benefit of disease severity reduction won't be as beneficial as with delta, likely because both groups, vaccinated or non-vaccinated, will end up with relatively fine with omicron ( less badness all around as compared to delta)

People seem to be getting this all confused as they'll use how the vaccines are doing vs. omicron to justify their stance over the last year... though that clearly ignores the vaccine efficacy against delta specifically. I do agree that the initial hope of vaccines blockign transmissions was debunked this august w/ delta countering the initial narrative. But that is just the way it goes sometimes.
