The world’s most misunderstood breakup song
It’s a tired, bitter song. Buckley did a great job with it. Drives me crazy to hear it sung without weariness or bitterness.
Since Buckley and Cohen are both dead, I’m not sure it’s cool to think of anyone as taking it from Cohen. Leonard wrote it, and the poetry of it is pretty unique to him. But Buckley’s version is great, for sure.
