If I were 10 years older I would have retired
Consider this scenario:
1. You are 55-60
2. Because of the booming stock market, your portfolio has almost tripled in value over the past 10 years
3. Because of age you are at higher risk due to covid
4. Workplace changes due to covid (remote work, etc) tend to be harder on older folks
If I could afford to, I'd retire. In that scenario I would be near retirement anyway. But given the recent reasons to bail on the work environment and start enjoying life it seems like a no-brainer.
The only downside to me is that international travel right now is a complete mess.

That may be the case. But how many 60+ year olds are working in fast food, manufacturing plants, and blue collar jobs?

Exactly, shortages at the top get filled quickly but then lead to shortages further down the wage scale
