Utah State hasn't played a P5 opponent in Logan since Wake Forest in 2014 which was part of a 2-1 deal.

Per fbschedules.com, the Aggies don't have another P5 opponent schedule again until 2028 vs Oregon, again part of a 2-1 deal.

The Aggies are scheduled to play a one-and-done money game each of the next four years (vs Alabama, Iowa, Miss St, & Texas A&M).

Things may be different from when USU was an independent and BYU may have been a bit desperate as an independent for games but there is no reason to schedule USU going forward for anything less than an occasional 2-1 deal.
