Pope's roster may be mostly "his" at this pt in the sense that he's not stuck w players he would've never offered schollies to. BUT he still needs like 3 or so years to say his roster is fully of his own make — & not built out of reaction to what he was stuck with on the roster. It's also reasonably taking him time to build up a reputation for himself as a national-level HC & recruiter. I know that was never much of a deal or concern for Rose, but its an aspect of HC-ing that Pope takes very seriously. The ceiling he anticipates for the program is surely higher than what his predecessors envisioned — & for him every recruiting class is a make-or-break deal for the quality of the upcoming season(s) & for the direction of the program.
