Great kid who in my ward who I wish was getting more attention from BYU...
His name is Steve Smedley and he plays QB for a 6A high-school in a very competitive district in Texas. There's crazy talent down here and the schools are massive (4,000 + students in some). He's Class of '23, mission first kid, so it's more like class of '25. Steve recently was invited to the Baton Rouge regional Elite 11 QB competition and placed second. He's extremely talented, but has been a little frustrated because he hadn't gotten offers like some other QBs in his class have. He played really well last year, but was out a few weeks with a foot/leg injury, which might have played a role in less eyes being on him, but he came back from the injury and played great against great competition.

He's been a lifelong Y fan and attended the BYU camp his freshman year (named MVP for his week) and went last summer too.

Recently Utah invited him to a campus tour and he said it went well. Louisville's QB coach and receiving coach are coming out to meet him this week. From what I understand, he's already met with Utah State and SMU, and really liked SMU. I have a feeling he's slid a bit under the radar, but will get a lot of attention over the next few months, especially after a healthy senior season. He is an incredibly hard worker with great talent and I'm certain he'll show a lot of growth this year. Above all, he's just a GREAT young man. He's humble, kind, and is already a great ambassador for the church to his teammates and schoolmates. He'd love to go to BYU… just needs their eyes on him. Fingers crossed.
