I am deeply terrified about conversion/central pain syndrome/central processing/central integration disorders etc etc etc with my own toddler.
Definitely have seen a change with newest group of residents - they have no problem calling in sick for headaches, migraines, mild URI symptoms. I’m not sure whether or not to chalk everything up to covid - or maybe this is the new norm. They complain about everything, if they are at the hospital 1 min past 4pm then it’s complaints.
I genuinely believe that the world is tough - and there is something to be said about resiliency, and this is such an important skill to have.
That being said, I totally empathize with people who suffer from mental health disorders or central processing disorders, but I do think developing resiliency may have helped SOME of these patients, and childhood epigenetic factors definitely play a role.
So I am with with…when my toddler falls we try to minimize things…not sure if this will work but will be our general philosophy - to teach him to embrace adversity and turn it to a positive.
