Because a conference game could fill the first weekend. I think that is what Tom is planning. He wouldn’t have canceled USU for 2023 if he had an inkling Tennessee would cancel and he didn’t have a game to fill the spot.

You can have 2, and I believe they can both count towards bowl eligibility
