This is a natural progression for pop culture called fractionalization
Media starts by appealing to as broad an audience as possible, but then starts creating content for dmsller but hopefully more dedicated audiences as you make more options available.

Pulp magazines start by releasing issues with stories to appeal to every demographic, then start releasing titles to men and women, then adult men, adolescent men, adult women, and adolescent women.

Same thing happened with Old Tike Radio shows.

Same with TV, it starts with 3 channels that try to air the least objectionable, then as cable comes along you de things like ESPN targeting sports fans, but then channels targeting just golf fans or football fans, then channels around particular leagues, then particular teams.

Marvel is locked into the superhero genre, but diversified with superhero and war movie (Captain America), superhero and high fantasy (Thor), superhero legal drama with male (Daredevil) and female (She-Hulk) leads, superhero and coming of age with male (Spider-Man) and female (Ms. Marvel) leads.

Of course, if you don’t care for superheroes, none of that will appeal to you. But even if you do, you probably won’t be invested in them all when they’re telling dozens of different stories in film and tv series.
