I wanted to see how this compared to another team, so have been looking at all of Utah's games over the past few years. They've chosen NOT to kneel a few more times than BYU has.
And the difference (so far at least, still gathering it all) honestly isn't so much about Utah getting an extra TD against San Jose St or BYU tacking on an extra FG, but more about Utah having their backups run the ball a few times when they have a big lead. It doesn't change the score (having the backup RB carry 3 times for 10 yards from midfield is not really much different than kneeling 3 times from midfield), but it probably is nice for that player to get a few carries.
