I didn't even try to make the high school basketball team even though 8th grade i had made the level one team. I knew i was on the lower end of my middle school team and that the three middle schools combined there wasn't going to be a spot for me.

I look back and wish there was something that transpired between 8th grade and high school that allowed me to think I could make that high school team. I would've loved to keep playing basketball and learn to play at a high level. But I was just a 3 on 3 street ball kid that was always on the playgrounds and didn't have the refinement of someone who had coaching from a young age. I wasn't as good at 5 on 5 as i was 2 on 2 or 3 on 3. Its a different game and I never thrived in organized 5 on 5 basketball.

One of my buddies played varsity and is one of the best basketball players i know. He dunked in a high school basketball game. Not even he could get minutes on the varsity team even though he deserved the minutes. It was all about the coaches favorites and who knew who. So it just wasn't in the card for a guy like me unless i had some burst of athleticism hit...but that never really came. lol.
