I agree with your statement.
In the case of my BIL I posted about above, he was not born with a bad lot in life. He learned to covet the things that maybe he wasn't handed, but he had everything he needed to be successful. He just didn't like that a peer was given a car by his parents but he had to borrow his mom's. He didn't like that a friend could go to somewhere exotic to surf, but he had to stay home and work. He didn't like that when someone graduated from college and got a good paying job he still had a few years to go because he slacked off on his schoolwork. He didn't like that other dads were present and his dad wasn't (he had a dad, but as was often the case back in the 70's, he wasn't very engaged with the kids).
You get the picture, he did not have a bad lot in life. He chose to focus on what he perceived to be disabling circumstances beyond his control. It just wasn't fair.
