The state of Utah can either have two decent teams or one good-to-great team. Both schools are too regional (as far as recruiting is concerned) for the success of one not to materially diminish the success of the other if they're on equal footing, say, in the same conference. If one is in a better conference, the power shift is inevitable. If the rest of the Big12 were smart, they'd realize this, and back the program already in their conference.
