RE: BYU Sports Camps
We had a similar situation with the soccer camp this year. My 10 year old wanted to room with his 16 year old cousin. So we had it set up like that.

However, what we didn't know was that they also made the poor 16 yr old do all the little kids activities as well. Obviously a 16 yr old doesn't want to hang out with a bunch of annoying 10 yr old kids.

So after the first day he asked to be moved with older kids his age. This left my son with no roommate and really no friends because he was always just with his cousin. It came to a head on the 2nd day at lunch when my son was loss and had a little breakdown. He asked for help and one of the counselors said they can't help? I was on the phone when I heard this.

I called up to the camp office and reported it. They immediately sent someone over to find him, help him to the next workout and spoke with the idiot that said he couldn't help him. I received a call from the counselor later that night apologizing.

Hate to hear your kid is having a poor experience. Keep in mind most these counselors are just there for a summer job and to make a quick buck. I have found the older the kid the better the experience.

We have loved the baseball camp and my kid has attended multiple years. My younger one did the soccer camp this year for the first time and we didn't see the same level value add. However, he is younger so it may change over time. He did say he would go back next year. I will also add, my 10 yr old is there to have fun. My older son is there to be recruited for baseball. So the interactions, ect are different.
