Interesting to hear from a So Cal guy. As an outsider, we love Coronado.
We stay at the Hotel Del one trip a summer over Labor Day and my family loves it. It’s the cleanest beach sand and best groomed beach we’ve found in Southern California. My kids love sand. 🤷‍♂️

And very little homeless people which is rare these days. And we’ve stayed at Mission Beach, La Jolla, Carlsbad, Oceanside and several other San Diego area beaches. We’re a beach family too (several other beach trips a year to places like Hawaii, Mexico, FL, SC, NC) so we love to hit nice/new places. In fact, it makes me want to hit up SC Beach based on what your saying.

As an Arizona family, we’ve found Coronado gives us the best and most consistent beach experience that we want. And now a days, we’ve found that we bring most of our food from home and only buy gas only in AZ. We try to avoid as much of CA as possible except for the beach for several of the reasons you mentioned (balls hanging out, dirty, homelessness, yuck). I legit drive into the Hotel Del garage and don’t use my vehicle until I drive out 4 days later. I see why So Cal people bang on Coronado but for us outsiders, we prefer to bypass as much of the state problems as possible. If there’s a better experience out there, I open to try it.
