I've had managers in the past that eat that type of thing up.
They act like it's so endearing, and brave. Reality is those people that got laid off don't give a rip about the CEO's virtue signaling. Like anyone else in that position, they're trying to find ways to survive until they find new work. They don't care if the CEO "feels bad" about letting them go.
