HiLife Intervention Needed
My kids began riding their bikes to school in first grade
Our house is 3/4 mile (mostly uphill) from their school, straight up the same street. They had to cross one 3-way stoplight intersection (not very busy), and a 4-way stop sign intersection near the school (has a crossing guard). We live in Southern California, so the weather is pretty nice most of the time, but if there was rain, we would either drive them or find them a ride to school that day. It was a great way to build some personal responsibility and some additional fitness, and I'm glad that we made them do it.

My youngest just wrapped up elementary school (6th grade), so now he is off to Middle School in a few weeks, which is almost 2 miles away. The plan is for him to continue riding his bike to Middle School like his older brothers did. We are not worried about it at all, and he is totally OK with doing it. Once they get to HS, it becomes a lot more tricky due to seminary, so we had to drive our older kids to school until they got their driver's license.
