I didn't have a lot in there, like $100. We used to travel to China every summer, and having a bank account made things SO much easier there since everything is paid digitally through a phone. They stopped allowing visitors to open bank accounts, so we were trying to hold onto ours as long as we could. If we ever go back now (which given the current political situation won't be for a while), it'll be a pain to try and get around without it--especially since China doesn't allow international credit cards, and typical street vendors don't take cash (often). Sigh.
Didi, their version of Uber, has also been running into political problems, and we relied on that all the time too. Their country is changing rapidly.
